Israel approves NIS 360m five-year plan to transform Eilat into southern economic and tourism hub

The Israeli government has given its approval to a comprehensive Five-Year Plan designed to transform Eilat and the Eilot Regional Council into a significant southern economic and tourism hub. The ambitious undertaking involves approximately 20 government ministries and carries a budget of NIS 360 million.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu introduced the proposal, which aims to "strengthen Eilat's status as Israel's southern gateway and as a strategic, economic, and tourism hub." According to a government press release, the plan will focus on reinforcing healthcare services, expanding public services, promoting new engines of economic growth, and developing crucial transportation and tourism infrastructure. The ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for residents in Eilat and the surrounding Eilot region.

Specific components of the plan include improving the availability of medical services and attracting healthcare professionals to the area, as well as upgrading the region's transport system, notably through the development of Ramon Airport. Other sectors targeted for infrastructural improvements include education, tourism, and emergency preparedness.
