Israel on alert after drone crashes near minister's home amid West Bank tensions

An investigation has been launched after a drone crashed near the home of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba. The Israeli army and the Shin Bet, the internal security service, are examining the circumstances of the incident. Public television reported that the drone was carrying only a camera.

The event occurs amid heightened tensions in the West Bank. Israeli media indicated that security services are handling the matter with significant caution, recalling previous instances where drones successfully penetrated Israeli airspace and defenses during the war in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich reiterated the government's policy of colonial expansion. He confirmed the approval of hundreds of new homes in the settlement of Eli, north of Ramallah, and announced plans to triple its size. Smotrich also affirmed the continuation of settlement farms and outposts, framing this policy as a cornerstone of Israel's security.

On the ground, the West Bank has seen numerous raids and arrests. A significant operation in the village of Tell, southwest of Nablus, resulted in the arrest of over 50 Palestinians and the search of nearly 70 homes, one of which was temporarily used as a military base. While most detainees were later released, access to the village remains restricted. In another incident, a Palestinian accused of attempting to seize a settler's weapon was released south of Hebron, following a reported altercation involving settlers and a shepherd.

Further escalating tensions, settlers reportedly attacked and damaged Palestinian vehicles near Bethlehem. Fires were also reported on village lands east of Ramallah. These developments coincide with calls from settler groups for marches in the West Bank, raising fears of renewed clashes with the Palestinian population.
