Israel Resumes Direct Flights Between Tel Aviv and Marrakech After Three-Year Suspension

Direct flights between Tel Aviv and Marrakech are set to resume this Wednesday, marking the return of a key travel link after a three-year hiatus. Israeli airline Arkia announced the relaunch of the route, which was suspended in 2023 following Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip. The resumption of services is seen as significant news for Israeli travelers wishing to visit Morocco. Arkia plans to operate the direct flights twice a week using Airbus A320 aircraft. The initial launch of regular direct flights between the two countries occurred in July 2021. This followed the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco, part of the Abraham Accords brokered by the U.S. administration under President Donald Trump. In exchange for normalization, the U.S. recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. The suspension of flights in 2023 coincided with Israel's response to the Hamas-led attack on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in Israel. The subsequent Israeli military operations in Gaza have led to a reported 73,400 fatalities, according to the Gazan Ministry of Health. Morocco was the fourth Arab nation to establish ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords, following the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.
