Israel to implement AI-powered English lessons for all high school students

Beginning next academic year, all high school students in Israel will engage with English language learning through personalized artificial intelligence (AI) lessons. The Ministry of Education confirmed this significant shift, which is part of "Project 720," an initiative launched in June to fundamentally reshape the Israeli education system by integrating AI and customized learning experiences.

Artificial intelligence-based systems, including the English app, make it possible to identify gaps, offer personalized practice, provide real-time feedback, and adapt learning to each student's level and progress.

This new approach to English education is built upon a successful trial conducted in 28 schools during the previous academic year. The program's expansion will now reach 180 schools nationwide. The Education Ministry highlighted the benefits of AI-driven systems, stating they "make it possible to identify gaps, offer personalized practice, provide real-time feedback, and adapt learning to each student's level and progress."

Alongside this, the teacher's central place is maintained as the leader of the educational process and as someone who provides direction, meaning, and personal guidance.

Merav Zarbiv, Director of the Education Ministry's Innovation and Technology Division, described Project 720 as embodying a modern educational philosophy that prioritizes both students and teachers. "We are moving from a concept of uniform teaching to a reality in which every student has the opportunity to learn in a way that suits them, while maintaining high educational goals and developing skills required for a changing world," she explained. The ministry assures that teachers' roles are preserved, with AI tools supporting them to focus on personal guidance and pedagogical leadership.
