Israeli Actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque Signal Potential Holiday Tensions

A significant incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Jewish worshippers is being viewed as a precursor to potential escalations during the upcoming Jewish high holidays in September and October. This event, which saw a large number of settlers enter the mosque complex, is part of a broader effort to alter the site's historical identity and status.

According to the Al-Quds International Foundation, the incursion was accompanied by attempts to solidify new realities on the ground, targeting the mosque's identity and historical standing through four primary avenues. These actions are reportedly backed by official Israeli government support, with members of the Israeli cabinet and parliament participating in mobilizing settlers for the visit, which they termed "Temple Destruction Day."

During this occasion, organizations advocating for the rebuilding of the Temple managed to mobilize approximately 4,300 settlers to enter the Al-Aqsa area. This figure represents the largest number of participants recorded during such a commemoration. The Al-Quds International Foundation has outlined the historical status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the gradual changes occurring over recent decades.

The management of the Al-Aqsa Mosque remains under the authority of the Jerusalem Waqf Department and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, an Islamic institution operating under the Hashemite Custodianship of Jordan over the holy sites. This arrangement underscores the ongoing tensions and disputes over control and access to the site.
