Israeli FM meets Argentine deputy speaker, hails 'growing friendship'

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with Martín Menem, the President of Argentina's Chamber of Deputies, who is currently visiting Israel. The meeting, confirmed by Saar on social media platform X, underscored the strong and developing relationship between the two nations.

Saar expressed his honor in meeting Menem, whom he described as a "true friend of Israel." He conveyed gratitude for Argentina's "clear moral support" under the leadership of President Javier Milei. The Israeli minister also highlighted the recent commencement of direct flights between Israel and Argentina, a detail previously confirmed by Argentina's ambassador, Axel Wahnish.

Additionally, Saar congratulated Menem on Argentina's victory in their opening match of the Football World Cup. The previous day, Menem had met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem. President Herzog characterized Menem's visit as "historic," noting it was the first by an Argentine Chamber of Deputies president and symbolizing the "deep and growing friendship between Israel and Argentina."

This strengthened relationship has been evident over the past two years, marked by multiple visits from President Milei. These visits stand in contrast to reduced international leader engagement with Israel amid its ongoing offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in over 73,000 deaths, and other regional conflicts.
