Israeli forces kill Palestinian goalkeeper, 32, expecting first child

Palestinian football mourns the loss of goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar, who was killed by Israeli forces earlier this week. The 32-year-old was a player for Khadamat Khan Younis and was expecting his first child with his wife, whom he married five months ago.

Palestinian officials stated that Al-Ashqar was killed by fire from occupying forces. The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) confirmed the tragic news, expressing deep sorrow over the continuation of such events and calling for justice and peace.

Deportivo Palestino, a Palestinian football club, also issued a statement mourning Al-Ashqar's death. His passing has led to widespread grief among his relatives, teammates, and the broader Palestinian sports community.

Al-Ashqar is among thousands of Palestinian athletes who have been affected since the conflict began in October 2023. He previously played for Al-Aqsa Club and Al-Musaddar Sports Club.
