Israeli President Herzog Meets Bucharest Mayor, to Address Romanian Parliament

Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, is undertaking an official visit to Romania, responding to an invitation from the Romanian President. On Monday, June 29, Herzog is scheduled to meet with Nicușor Dan, the Mayor of Bucharest, at the Cotroceni Palace. Later in the day, he is expected to address a joint session of the Romanian Parliament.

The visit signifies a new chapter in bilateral relations, reflecting an intensification of political contacts between the two nations in recent years. The Presidential Administration stated that the Romanian President will receive Herzog at 10:00 AM for talks, official discussions, joint press statements, and a luncheon. This visit underscores the "very good dynamic of bilateral relations" and a "shared commitment to strengthening cooperation," highlighting the "solidarity of the relationship between Romania and Israel," built on extensive political and economic collaboration and deep people-to-people ties.

Key topics on the agenda for the heads of state include enhancing collaboration in areas such as the economy, security, and defense. They will also address specific issues like Holocaust education, the fight against antisemitism, cultural exchanges, and strengthening interpersonal connections. Furthermore, the leaders plan to discuss recent developments in the Black Sea and Middle East regions, focusing on their impact on regional security and the global economy.

In the afternoon, at 5:00 PM, President Herzog will deliver his address to the joint session of the Romanian Parliament. Herzog previously attended the commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the Iași Pogrom on Sunday, June 28.
