Israeli Settlers Fail to Burn Nablus Mosque, Leave Racist Graffiti

An attempted arson attack on a mosque near Nablus ended with racist graffiti after Israeli settlers reportedly failed to break through the building’s doors.

Local sources said the settlers targeted a room near the Nur al-Din Zanki Mosque in Beita, northwest of Nablus, in the early hours of September 1, 2026. The attack was reported after the group failed to enter the mosque itself.

Palestine’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs condemned what it called a criminal attack. The ministry described the targeting of mosques and other religious sites as a dangerous and systematic escalation intended to provoke Muslims and violate the sanctity of sites protected under international law.

The mosque will remain alive through the presence of worshippers and their message of faith.

Nasser al-Salman, director general of the Nablus Endowments, said the attempted arson and racist graffiti reflected continuing incitement against Palestinian holy sites. He said the mosque would remain active through worshippers and their religious message, and that such attacks would not weaken Palestinians’ ties to their homeland and sacred places.

The ministry urged international and human rights organizations to protect places of worship and halt what it described as repeated attacks by Zionist settlers on Palestinian villages and towns.
