Israeli strikes in Lebanon kill one, damage ambulance

Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have resulted in one death and damage to an ambulance, the health ministry announced. The ministry condemned the "continuation of targeting" rescuers by the Israeli army. These strikes are part of the ongoing war between Israel and the Iran-aligned Hezbollah movement, even though a ceasefire is theoretically in effect.

The first strike targeted a vehicle in the southern city of Nabatieh. Subsequently, the Israeli army launched a second strike against rescuers from the Risala immediate aid organization, which is affiliated with the Amal movement, an ally of Hezbollah. This strike damaged their ambulance. Beirut "reiterates its condemnation of the continuation by the enemy of targeting rescue groups, which constitutes an unacceptable violation of international humanitarian law and all international norms."

Lebanese civil defense also reported that one of its workers was targeted by a drone strike while attempting to extinguish a fire in low vegetation in the Nabatieh province. No injuries were reported, but a civil defense team was forced to leave the area. The official Lebanese news agency ANI reported that an explosion was heard and Israeli artillery fire was reported in other southern sectors. Hezbollah is accused of drawing Lebanon into the Middle East war in March, firing rockets at Israel to avenge the death of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The Israeli army retaliated with large-scale airstrikes and a ground invasion of southern Lebanon, which Lebanese authorities claim have killed over 4,300 people. Although violence has de-escalated, sporadic Israeli strikes and destruction continue to be reported.
