Israeli Troops Capture Hezbollah Militant in Southern Lebanon

Israeli troops captured a Hezbollah militant during an encounter in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, the Israeli military announced Wednesday. The apprehended individual, described as a member of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force, was seized in the Bint Jbeil area and subsequently transferred to Israel for interrogation.

The military stated that the captured militant was responsible for carrying out attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians throughout the ongoing conflict. This capture follows a period of intermittent Israeli strikes into southern Lebanon, which the military asserts are aimed at Hezbollah sites and operatives.

Despite a two-week-old truce, both Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of violating the ceasefire. This incident underscores the fragile security situation along the border. Last month, a U.S.-mediated agreement was signed by Israel and Lebanon, intended to pave the way for a permanent cessation of hostilities.

Israeli forces maintain a presence in a security zone extending approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory. Israeli officials have indicated their forces will remain as long as necessary to ensure the security of northern Israel. Lebanese authorities report that Israeli attacks since March 2 have resulted in approximately 4,300 casualties, while the Israeli military confirms the loss of 38 soldiers and one civilian contractor in the same period.
