Istanbul Cemeteries to Get 24/7 Camera Security to Prevent Vandalism and Theft

In a move to bolster security and protect the sanctity of burial sites, Istanbul is set to install a state-of-the-art camera system across all its main cemeteries. This proactive measure, announced by the Istanbul Governorship, is designed to safeguard graves from theft, vandalism, and other forms of desecration, ensuring a more secure environment for remembrance.

The new surveillance system will operate 24/7, covering entry and exit points as well as blind spots within the cemeteries. The Governorship has mandated that any malfunctioning cameras must be repaired and made operational within 60 days, underscoring the commitment to continuous monitoring. This technological upgrade is complemented by an increased presence of law enforcement, who will be stepping up patrols around cemetery perimeters.

Those who violate the regulations and engage in unlawful behavior within the cemetery grounds will be subject to legal action, including administrative fines under the Law on Offences. This comprehensive approach reflects a dedication to maintaining order and respect within these important public spaces, offering peace of mind to grieving families and visitors.
