Istanbul closes parks and forests due to storm warning

Istanbul has temporarily closed several of its beloved green spaces, including parks and urban forests, to the public as a safety precaution against anticipated strong winds and potential storms. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) announced the closures, citing meteorological forecasts predicting wind speeds of 40–70 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching storm force.

The decision aims to mitigate risks associated with severe weather, such as falling branches and uprooted trees, which could pose a danger to visitors. The affected areas include prominent locations like Emirgan Grove, Yıldız Grove, Gülhane Grove, and various Atatürk parks and urban forests across the city.

Authorities have reminded residents to monitor meteorological warnings and exercise caution, particularly in wooded areas, during the period of strong winds. The Istanbul Fire Department and Risk Management Department (AKOM) emphasized the importance of staying vigilant against the dangers of falling branches and trees.

These green spaces will be reopened to the public once the adverse weather conditions have passed and the risk of wind-related damage has significantly diminished. The municipality assured that the closures are temporary and are solely for the protection of citizens.
