One arrested over forest fire in Edremit

Authorities in Turkey have arrested one individual in connection with a forest fire that occurred in the Edremit district of Balıkesir province. An investigation team, established by the District Gendarmerie Command, quickly identified and apprehended a suspect.

The fire broke out on August 13 in the Kadıköy neighborhood of Edremit. The special team formed to determine the cause of the blaze and identify those responsible concluded that the fire started from sparks. These sparks ignited the forest area when a suspect, identified as Y.Ç., aged 22, attempted to start a fire using a device constructed from stones.

Following his apprehension, the suspect was taken to the gendarmerie for processing. After being brought before judicial authorities, Y.Ç. was formally arrested and taken into custody. The Balıkesir Provincial Gendarmerie Command stated that efforts to ensure public order and safety, reduce and prevent crime, and apprehend offenders are ongoing.
