Istanbul fire spreads to 2 apartments; one body found

A fire erupted in Istanbul's Şemsipaşa Mahallesi on Monday afternoon, rapidly spreading from a four-story building to two adjacent apartment blocks. The blaze, which began around 1:15 PM on the building's roof during renovation work, quickly engulfed the structures.

Emergency services, including firefighters, health personnel, and police, were dispatched to the scene following reports from concerned residents. Those inside the affected buildings managed to evacuate on their own. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, successfully rescuing one person who was trapped due to a chronic illness.

During subsequent cooling operations, rescue teams discovered the body of one individual within the building. The deceased's identity is pending confirmation, and the body has been transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute's morgue for autopsy.

Witnesses described the scene with distress. Musa Şahin expressed sadness upon hearing about the fire, hoping there were no injuries and noting the smell of smoke reaching a significant distance. Another resident, Hakan Çebi, reported seeing the flames and a considerable commotion, but noted the timely arrival of the fire department and the absence of injuries among those who evacuated.
