Istanbul lawyer shot after shouting, “Come and shoot me”

A lawyer was wounded in a shooting outside a restaurant in Istanbul’s Kağıthane district after witnesses said he had shouted, “Either you come and shoot me, or I’ll shoot you,” during a video call.

The incident took place in the Ortabayır neighborhood at about 3 p.m. The lawyer, identified as Murat K., had been sitting alone in the restaurant before going outside to speak on his phone. A masked suspect dressed in black opened fire near the entrance.

Murat K. suffered a wound to his left arm and grazes to his right arm and chest. Police said he remained conscious and was not in life-threatening condition. Investigators found three spent shell casings at the scene. Witnesses said two people arrived on a motorcycle shortly after the argument, and the passenger fired at the lawyer. Security camera footage reportedly supported their accounts.

Kağıthane police traced the suspects to a house in the Gültepe neighborhood. After the door was not opened, officers entered through a balcony and detained Yasin K., 22, and Yusuf K., 26. The report said both suspects were arrested and jailed. It also said Murat K. had nine previous records for offenses including attempted intentional killing, robbery, threats and insults, intentional injury and drug use.
