Istanbul open-air cinema brings summer nights to life

Istanbul residents can enjoy a summer of cinema under the stars with an open-air film program organized by İBB subsidiary Kültür AŞ. The series aims to offer an alternative gathering space for those seeking cinematic experiences within the city's vibrant atmosphere.

The program kicks off on July 31 with Fatih Akın's documentary "İstanbul Hatırası: Köprüyü Geçmek" (Remembrance of Istanbul: Crossing the Bridge). This film explores Istanbul's multicultural fabric and music scene, weaving together stories of musicians from various neighborhoods to showcase the city's diverse streets, sounds, and cultural richness.

August 14 will feature a special screening of "Yaşamaya Mecbursun" (We Must Live) as part of Bulutsuzluk Özlemi's 40th Anniversary. The film delves into the 40-year musical journey of the influential Turkish rock band.

The series continues on August 28 with "The Boy and the Heron," a celebrated work by Hayao Miyazaki, known for his narratives on nature, humanity, and imagination. The program concludes on September 11 with another Miyazaki masterpiece, "My Neighbor Totoro," a beloved animation that captures the enchanting world of Studio Ghibli.

Attendees must register for the film screenings via the Radar Türkiye application. The schedule includes "İstanbul Hatırası: Köprüyü Geçmek" on July 31, "Yaşamaya Mecbursun" on August 14, "The Boy and the Heron" on August 28, and "My Neighbor Totoro" on September 11, all starting at 9:30 PM.
