Istanbul operation nets 726 suspects, seizes weapons and drugs

Istanbul police have apprehended 726 individuals during a comprehensive operation aimed at enhancing public safety.

The "Huzur İstanbul" operation, coordinated by the Istanbul Public Order Branch Directorate, was conducted in two phases. The first phase involved fixed road checks at 195 locations between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with 1130 personnel participating. A police helicopter and five boats from the Maritime Branch Directorate provided support.

The second phase, from 10:00 PM to midnight, focused on inspections of public places with 1015 personnel. During these checks, a total of 317,188 individuals underwent General Information Gathering (GBT) checks. Among those detained were 351 suspects wanted for various crimes.

Authorities seized 24 unlicensed handguns, two rifles, seven blank-firing guns, 141 bullets, and 797 grams of narcotics. They also confiscated 12 ecstasy pills and approximately 6,765 Turkish Lira, 105 Euros, and 5 US dollars believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

In addition, 507 public venues were inspected. Traffic police checked 41,856 vehicles and 2,008 motorcycles, issuing fines to 2,520 vehicles and 39 drivers. Ten vehicles were impounded, and administrative fines totaling 2,244,551 Turkish Lira were issued.
