Istanbul roads to close Sunday for Asian and European Triathlon Championship

Istanbul authorities have announced road closures for Sunday to accommodate the 2026 International Asian and European Triathlon Championship. Traffic will be significantly impacted in the Beykoz and Üsküdar districts. Starting from 04:45 AM until the event concludes, all roads leading to the Atatürk Caddesi coastal direction, as well as Cuma Yolu Caddesi and Körfez Caddesi, will be closed to traffic. Alternative routes include Küçüksu and Göksu streets, and sections of Mehmet Ali Birand and Atatürk streets towards Kavacık.

Major disruptions are also expected on the southern direction of the TEM Highway. Access from Maslak-Sarıyer side roads towards Ankara, the Maslak side road towards Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and connections from Levent and Etiler-Baltalimanı to the southern TEM will be closed. Traffic flow from the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge towards Ankara, diversions from the southern TEM to Anatolia, the Yeni Riva road, and traffic from Kavacık to Atatürk Caddesi will also be affected.

Drivers heading towards Ankara can use Büyükdere Avenue, the Northern Marmara Highway, the D-100 southern route towards the July 15 Martyrs Bridge, and the Eurasia Tunnel. For those needing to cross to the Anatolian side, routes via the Yeni Riva Road and Kavacık over the bridge towards the southern TEM Ankara direction are available.

In the Sarıyer and Beşiktaş areas, Büyükdere Avenue in the Sarıyer and Zincirlikuyu-Levent directions, and traffic flow from the Çilekli Facilities to the southern TEM will be closed. Drivers in these districts will be redirected to Büyükdere and Uğur Mumcu avenues. Authorities urge motorists to adhere to alternative route signage to minimize delays during the championship.
