Istanbul temperatures to approach 30C as summer heat continues

Summer is not giving way in Istanbul just yet. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Department, known as AKOM, expects temperatures to remain near 30C through the week.

Friday’s forecast calls for mostly clear skies, apart from brief and localized showers. Temperatures are expected to reach about 23C in the morning and 29C around midday, before falling to 24C in the evening and 22C overnight.

AKOM said intermittent strong northerly, or poyraz, winds will carry cooler air into the city. Even so, temperatures are forecast to stay between 28C and 30C during the week. No rain is expected over the weekend, with mostly clear conditions predicted for Saturday and Sunday and temperatures ranging from 21C to 31C.

Partly cloudy skies are expected on Monday, when temperatures should range from 22C to 28C. Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to remain mostly clear, with highs of 27C and 28C respectively. Thursday could bring partly cloudy conditions and temperatures between 21C and 30C.

Humidity is expected to range from 40% to 80%. Sea temperatures should remain around 24C, while northerly and northeastern winds may intermittently strengthen to between 20 and 50 km/h.
