Istanbul Water Use Peaks Amid Summer Heat, Authorities Urge Conservation

Istanbul is experiencing a significant spike in water consumption as summer temperatures climb, with daily usage exceeding 3.5 million cubic meters. The Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) has issued an urgent call for water conservation among residents, stressing the importance of using this vital resource efficiently.

İSKİ General Manager Şafak Başa announced that water consumption in the city reached 3,568,162 cubic meters on the previous day alone. He emphasized that simple conservation measures in daily life can make a substantial difference in preserving water for the future. "Every drop of water we save today is Istanbul's tomorrow," Başa stated in a message shared via his social media account.

He pointed out that if daily water consumption across Istanbul were reduced by just 15%, the amount of water saved would be equivalent to the capacity of the entire Terkos Dam. The İSKİ chief reiterated that each drop saved represents an investment in the city's future, urging citizens to be mindful of their water consumption habits. The administration seeks to ensure a sustainable water supply for the growing metropolis amidst increasing demand driven by climate and population factors.
