It’s finally over says relieved wife

The wife of former Fijian Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica expressed profound relief today after he was acquitted by the Suva Magistrates Court on charges of perjury and giving false information. Ann Kamikamica described the past months as emotionally draining, marked by frequent court appearances and public scrutiny that questioned her husband's integrity.

"I'm grateful that it's come to an end, it's not easy going to court so often... when you know your man hasn't done it, his integrity has been questioned, it's a huge reputational risk," she said. The family never doubted his innocence and is thankful for the outcome they desired. They also extended gratitude to supporters, friends, and family who stood by them.

Kamikamica's acquittal stems from evidence he provided under oath during a Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of a former FICAC Commissioner. Despite the relief, Ann Kamikamica admitted a personal preference for her husband to step away from politics, citing the significant sacrifices it demands from families. She acknowledged, however, that serving Fiji has always been his passion.

"I'd really like him to step out and step down, but it's something that he's always wanted... it's hard on the family... it's not easy, it's not cheap, it's taxing on families," she stated. She added that while they could be holidaying elsewhere, their love for the nation drives their commitment. Kamikamica is expected to be reinstated to his previous portfolio soon.
