The Italian Navy's aircraft carrier, ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi (C551), is making its way to Indonesia, with its arrival in Jakarta marking the commencement of a formal handover ceremony. Produced by Fincantieri, the 180-meter-long vessel has already departed from Taranto, Italy, and is scheduled to make stops in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Colombo, Sri Lanka, before reaching Indonesian waters.

Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, confirmed the ship's itinerary and the purpose of its arrival. "Upon arrival in Indonesia, the former Giuseppe Garibaldi ship will first dock in Jakarta. While the Ministry of Defense has outlined the general process, the specific details and arrangements for the reception in Jakarta fall under the full purview of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL). Following the completion of the handover procedures in the capital, the aircraft carrier is slated to proceed to the naval base at Teluk Ratai in Lampung.

Rear Admiral Tunggul, Head of the Navy Information Service (Kadispenal), previously indicated that preparations for the naval base in Lampung, designated as the carrier's future home, are nearing completion. "Regarding the readiness of the base infrastructure in Lampung, the finishing progress is currently underway and is expected to be completed upon Garibaldi's arrival in Indonesia," he had said. Tunggul assured that the base would be fully operational by the end of September 2026, though he did not provide further details on the specific facilities or construction progress.
