Italian tourist critically injured by boat propeller in Othonoi

A 30-year-old Italian tourist is in critical condition following a severe injury sustained from a yacht's propeller while at sea near Othonoi, an island in Greece. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.

The exact circumstances that led to the woman being in the water remain unclear. Authorities are investigating whether she fell from the yacht or intentionally entered the water. At the time of the incident, the yacht's engines were operational, and she was struck by the propeller, resulting in serious leg injuries.

She was promptly rescued from the sea and transported to Imerovigli on northern Corfu with the assistance of the Coast Guard. From there, an ambulance took her to the General Hospital of Corfu, where doctors performed emergency surgery to control bleeding and stabilize her condition.

Due to the severity of her injuries, an air ambulance was required to transfer her to the University General Hospital of Ioannina. She is currently receiving treatment in the Vascular Surgery Clinic. Authorities are continuing their investigation into how the tourist ended up in the water and sustained the propeller injury.
