Italy sends vital medical aid to Cuba, denouncing U.S. blockade

A significant shipment of medical supplies and vital equipment has been dispatched to Cuba from Italy, marking a continuation of a collaboration that began eighteen months ago. The joint effort involves ASL Roma 1, the Gianni Miná Foundation, and the National Association of Friendship Italy-Cuba (ANAIC).

The ANAIC reported that the container's dispatch was made possible through the combined efforts and financial contributions of ANAIC itself, the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), and mediCuba Europa. This second shipment, following a previous one in June 2025, carries high-value medical supplies and equipment crucial for patient care. Included are specialized items like respirators, incubators, multiparametric monitors, ultrasound devices, and optical microscopes.

In addition to advanced equipment, the shipment contains items for operating rooms and hospital services, such as surgical lamps and mechanical cots. Essential medications and medical-surgical products are also part of the cargo. The value of these supplies is described as significant, offering substantial assistance to the Cuban people.

ANAIC characterized this medical aid as a political gesture of solidarity and resistance against the "criminal hardening" of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the island. The organization stated, "At a time when attempts are being made to suffocate the Cuban people and deny them even access to essential medical resources, internationalism, the defense of sovereignty, and the universal right to health are confirmed as our most forceful response. Against any embargo, the solidarity of the peoples cannot be blocked!"

The initiative underscores a strong international commitment to supporting Cuba amidst external pressures. The collaborative nature of the effort, involving multiple Italian organizations, highlights a broad base of support for the Cuban people's right to health and well-being.
