Italy strikes gold: Curtis sets world record in swimming, Derkach wins triple jump

Italy celebrated a remarkable day at European championships, with Sara Curtis and Dariya Derkach capturing gold medals in swimming and athletics, respectively. Curtis, a young talent from Piedmont, not only won her first career gold medal in the 50m backstroke at the Paris European Swimming Championships but also shattered the world record.

Curtis clocked in at 26.56 seconds, improving the previous day's semi-final record by 7 hundredths of a second and the overall prior record by three-tenths. The 19-year-old athlete, who turns 20 on August 19, described the achievement as a dream and a huge goal, calling the double world record within two days the best gift she could have given herself.

Meanwhile, at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Dariya Derkach earned a historic gold medal in the triple jump. Her winning leap of 14.60 meters, achieved on her fourth attempt, was a personal best and the leading European mark of the season. This double success highlights a strong performance for Italian athletes on the international stage.
