Itauma too fast for Hrgovic — Allen

Heavyweight veteran Dave Allen, who was recently defeated by Filip Hrgovic, predicts that the Croatian's upcoming opponent, Moses Itauma, will prove too fast for him. Allen, stopped in three rounds by Hrgovic earlier this month, recognized the power and skill of the 33-year-old Hrgovic but highlighted Itauma's speed as a key factor.

"I think Itauma might be too fast for him, just too fast," Allen stated on his YouTube channel. "But you have to be a good one to beat him. He’s very good, better than I thought." Allen's assessment comes after his own experience facing Hrgovic, who headlined a Queensberry Promotions card in Doncaster.

Itauma, considered Frank Warren's top heavyweight prospect, is coming off a dominant fifth-round knockout of Jermaine Franklin in March. His dynamic fighting style, characterized by explosive entries from various angles, has garnered significant attention. However, Hrgovic represents a considerable step up in competition for the 21-year-old Itauma.

The potential bout between Itauma and Hrgovic is being targeted for August 8. Hrgovic recently re-signed with Queensberry Promotions after expressing interest in joining Dana White's Zuffa Boxing. His fight against Allen was his first under the new deal. Despite the August 8 target, Hrgovic may opt for a later date due to the short turnaround from his recent fight.
