Ituri Provincial Deputies Pledge Support in Ebola Response

Provincial deputies in the Ituri region of the Democratic Republic of Congo have committed to assisting health authorities in their response to the ongoing Ebola epidemic. The deputies made this pledge on Saturday, May 30, following a meeting with the Minister of Public Health and the Minister of Communication and Media.

The elected officials vowed to actively engage with the local population, raising awareness about the disease and encouraging widespread community participation to halt its propagation. This initiative aims to bolster the effectiveness of the government's efforts, which are currently focused on controlling Ebola in seven health zones across Ituri.

Minister of Public Health Roger Kamba stressed the critical role provincial deputies can play in community outreach. He highlighted that increased involvement from these elected representatives is essential for strengthening public adherence to prevention and control measures. Kamba also pointed out that the success of the response hinges on communities respecting guidelines, particularly by promptly reporting suspected cases to the dedicated response teams.

The deputies expressed satisfaction with the discussions, viewing the government's proactive approach as a source of hope for those affected by the hemorrhagic fever. They pledged their support to health officials in promoting preventive measures, which they identified as the most effective means to overcome the disease. The deputies also urged the residents of Ituri to remain calm, avoid succumbing to rumors, and strictly follow the recommendations provided by health services.
