Iwi Leader Helmut Modlik Cleared After ‘Speculation’ Over Tiaki Wai Conflict

Helmut Modlik has been cleared of concerns over a potential conflict of interest after “speculation” about his overlapping roles and his support for water investment that could benefit a company he directs.

Modlik represents an iwi on the Tiaki Wai Partners Committee, which oversees governance of the new water entity. Questions arose after he appeared to push the entity toward areas of investment linked to Construction Contracts Ltd, or CCL.

The North Island iwi Ngāti Toa recently acquired a majority shareholding in CCL, a civil infrastructure firm. Modlik’s role at the company and his position on the committee prompted the concerns, but the article says he was cleared.
