Iwobi’s Historic Feat Overshadowed by Fulham’s 3-2 Home Defeat to Palace

Alex Iwobi made Premier League history for Fulham, but the milestone came in a 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Nigeria international became the first African and only the fifth player in Premier League history to make at least 100 appearances for three different clubs. He had previously reached 100 appearances for Arsenal and made 123 league appearances for Everton.

Iwobi started the match at Craven Cottage and contributed to Fulham’s attacking play, taking corners and attempting a shot inside the Palace penalty area. Fulham took the lead in the 11th minute when Joshua King collected the ball in the box and fired a deflected effort past Dean Henderson.

Crystal Palace equalized through Tyrick Mitchell in the 35th minute after his first goal had been ruled out for offside following a VAR review. Cesar Palacios restored Fulham’s lead with a rebound in the 42nd minute, but Mitchell scored again in the 54th minute to make it 2-2.

Palace completed the comeback in the 77th minute. Ben Chilwell reacted fastest to a rebound inside the box and fired into the bottom-right corner for the winning goal. Iwobi joined Gary Speed, Rory Delap, Gareth Barry and James Milner in the exclusive group of players with 100 Premier League appearances for three clubs.
