Iyabo Obasanjo’s 2027 campaign director resigns from Ogun SUBEB post

Abiodun Ajayi has resigned from the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board to lead Senator Iyabo Obasanjo’s campaign for the 2027 Senate election.

Ajayi, a former chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government and Permanent Member III of the board, submitted his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. He thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and said his decision followed the emergence of new political responsibilities.

Rather than finding myself in a position where I may have to balance between competing responsibilities, expectations, or political orientations, I believe it is more honourable, responsible and principled to voluntarily relinquish my present appointment.

In the letter, Ajayi said he did not want to balance competing responsibilities, expectations or political orientations while holding the SUBEB appointment. He described voluntarily leaving the post as the more responsible and principled course.

I resigned my appointment with SUBEB about three days ago. I am grateful to the governor for giving me the opportunity to serve, but it is time for me to leave.

Ajayi confirmed the resignation by telephone and rejected reports that it would precede a defection from the All Progressives Congress. He said he had previously served as director-general for Iyabo Obasanjo during her gubernatorial ambitions under the APC, and that she had now appointed him to lead her Senate campaign.

Obasanjo is the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2027 senatorial candidate for Ogun Central.
