Anosike pledges to cover 60% of Abia women’s medical bills

Kelechi Anosike, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Nigeria’s Abia State, has promised to cover 60% of women’s medical bills if elected in February 2027.

The woman takes care of the family, but she needs to be strong to take care of the family.

Speaking at the first August Summit of the Abia Assurance Movement’s women’s wing in Umuahia, Anosike said his proposed administration would create a health insurance scheme for women. Women would pay 40% of medical costs, while the government would cover the remainder and provide what he described as high-quality care.

He also outlined a cooperative-based financing plan. Rather than giving money to individuals, the government would organize women into cooperatives and provide revolving loans and grants through the relevant government agency. Anosike said the plan would support personal businesses and broader economic empowerment.

Instead of giving one person money, you will be grouped into cooperatives and funds will be given to you as revolving loans and it will get to all at the same time.

The PDP candidate promised additional grants, skills-acquisition training and start-up kits. He said the aim would be to help women move from being viewed largely as dependents to becoming producers who could establish and sustain their own businesses. He also said his government would promote agricultural production for local consumption and export.

The government will change the status of women, largely seen as dependents, to that of producers by training them and providing them with start-up kits to set up and be on their own.

Anosike donated 2.5 million naira to support women attending the summit. Abia Assurance Movement leaders said the group would conduct awareness campaigns across all 184 wards to warn women against political deception. They criticized politicians who offer women small gifts and 500 naira as empowerment, calling the practice “wickedness.”
