Jakarta Begins Construction of 'Donut Bridge' to Integrate Six Transportation Modes

Jakarta is embarking on a significant infrastructure project with the groundbreaking of the "Donut Bridge" pedestrian deck in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta. This new facility is designed to seamlessly integrate six major public transportation modes, aiming to eliminate the difficulties commuters face when transferring between services.

The "Donut Bridge" will connect the KRL Commuter Line, Airport Train, Transjakarta buses, LRT Jabodebek, MRT Jakarta, and the future LRT Jakarta. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, stated that this pedestrian pathway will provide "seamless mobility," ensuring that people are no longer inconvenienced by weather conditions like heat or rain while switching transport.

This pedestrian pathway with six connected modes will be seamless mobility. That is, people will no longer be exposed to heat, rain, and so on.

Funding for the project will come from PT MRT Jakarta. While the governor expressed a hope for completion by next year, coinciding with Jakarta's 500th anniversary, the target completion date is set for 2028. Officials believe the "Donut Bridge" will not only enhance the commuter experience but also contribute to reducing traffic congestion in the area.

Currently, many people alight at the roadside, disrupting traffic, especially during peak hours and inclement weather. The elevated pedestrian deck is expected to alleviate this by providing a direct and sheltered route to various transit hubs, encouraging more people to use public transportation efficiently.
