Jakarta police forward extortion case against businessman to prosecutors

Jakarta police have advanced a case involving alleged extortion of a young businessman, identified by the initial VL, by transferring the case files, suspect, and evidence to the prosecutor's office. The incident, which reportedly occurred in February 2026, has left the businessman traumatized.

According to VL, the ordeal began when he met with Bangun Paulus Tudungta, an attorney, along with four other individuals, at a hotel in Jakarta. Following the meeting, VL claims he was taken on a tour of the city, during which he was allegedly pressured to hand over Rp500 million. He reported facing threats of not being released if he refused to comply with the demand.

In the alleged coercive situation, VL states he ultimately handed over Rp60 million. He was subsequently dropped off in the Puncak area of Bogor. The businessman expressed the significant trauma he experienced due to the alleged extortion and threats orchestrated by Tudungta and his associates.

The Central Jakarta Metro Police have concluded their investigation into the matter and submitted the case documents to the Central Jakarta District Prosecutor's Office, marking a significant step towards potential legal proceedings.
