Jakarta reopens riot-damaged Senen Sentral pedestrian bridge after repairs

The Senen Sentral Pedestrian Bridge in Jakarta, a vital link damaged during riots in August 2025, is once again operational after extensive repairs. The bridge, which had been unusable for months, reopened on Thursday, June 4, 2026, much to the relief of local residents.

The delay in reopening was attributed to administrative issues between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Ministry of Public Works (PU). Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, explained that while the central government, through the Ministry of PU, was responsible for the repairs, the handover process was stalled due to pending paperwork. This administrative bottleneck left the bridge inaccessible despite the completion of renovation work.

Residents had voiced their frustration on social media, highlighting the difficulties and near-accidents caused by the lack of a safe crossing point in the busy Senen area. The governor acknowledged these complaints, stating that the issue was primarily one of communication and administration. He confirmed that all necessary processes have now been finalized, allowing the bridge to resume full operation.
