Jakarta university students begin zakat agency internship

Fifteen students from the Islamic Economics program at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ) have commenced a collective internship program at the National Amil Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI).

The welcoming ceremony for the interns took place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at BAZNAS RI headquarters in Jakarta. Attendees included Arifin Purwakananta, Deputy I of BAZNAS RI, Randi Swandaru, Head of the HR Planning and Strategy Division, and other division heads from BAZNAS RI's Kedeputian I. Dr. Adi Mansah, Head of the Islamic Economics Program at FEB UMJ, also represented the university.

During their internship, the students will be placed in strategic divisions such as Fundraising, Operations and HR, and Promotion and Marketing. We hope that through these placements, students will gain real experience in national zakat governance.

Arifin Purwakananta expressed BAZNAS RI's appreciation for UMJ's trust in them as an internship partner. He encouraged the students to leverage this opportunity for learning and professional skill development in zakat management. "During their internship, the students will be placed in strategic divisions such as Fundraising, Operations and HR, and Promotion and Marketing. We hope that through these placements, students will gain real experience in national zakat governance," he stated.

Purwakananta also expressed hope for the continued collaboration between FEB UMJ and BAZNAS RI, strengthening synergy in human resource development within Islamic economics. Dr. Adi Mansah conveyed his gratitude to BAZNAS RI leadership for the warm welcome. He envisioned the internship not only as a learning platform but also as a means to cultivate young leaders with integrity and competence in developing sharia economics and finance in Indonesia. "We hope our students feel comfortable and enthusiastic during their internship at BAZNAS RI. May this experience be valuable preparation for them to become future cadres and leaders in the development of Islamic economics, especially within BAZNAS RI. We also thank all the supervising lecturers for their guidance," Mansah said.

The collective internship program is a key component of the collaboration between FEB UMJ and BAZNAS RI, supporting the "Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka" (MBKM) policy by enhancing student competencies through direct work experience.
