Jakob Smári Magnússon named Mosfellsbær's artist of the year

Mosfellsbær has honored veteran bassist Jakob Smári Magnússon as its artist of the year for 2026. The prestigious title was bestowed upon him during the opening ceremony of the town's annual festival, 'Í túninu heima'.

The selection committee, the Culture, Sports, and Public Health Committee of Mosfellsbær, presented Magnússon with an award and a monetary prize. This recognition celebrates his extensive and impactful career spanning over four decades in the Icelandic music scene.

Magnússon is a well-respected figure, having played with many of the nation's top musicians. He was a founding member of the internationally recognized band Tappi Tíkarrass, which famously featured Björk Guðmundsdóttir. His musical journey also includes collaborations with Bubbi Morthens in bands like Das Kapital and Egó, and he contributed to numerous solo albums by Morthens.

Further highlighting his significant contributions, Magnússon was also a co-founder of the band SSSÓL and a member of Grafík and Pláhnetan. His international experience includes a seven-year tenure playing with John Grant, performing with him in concerts worldwide. His ongoing connection with the Icelandic music community and his international collaborations underscore his lasting influence.
