JAMB Explains Why Some UTME Results Are Withheld: Underage Candidates Affected

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided a crucial clarification regarding the "No Result Yet" status encountered by some candidates checking their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. This situation primarily affects underage candidates whose results are currently being withheld pending further review, as per established regulations.

Results for underage candidates have not been released. When such candidates attempt to check their results, the system will return the message ‘No Result Yet.’

JAMB has reiterated that the standard age requirement for UTME eligibility is a minimum of 16 years by September 30, 2026. This policy is in place to ensure candidates are developmentally ready for tertiary education. However, the board acknowledges that exceptional talent can emerge at younger ages.

As stipulated by regulation, only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by 30th September 2026 are eligible.

For academically outstanding underage candidates, a pathway exists. Those who achieve a score of 320 or above in the UTME and demonstrate at least 80% proficiency in subsequent screening stages may be considered under an exceptional category. This provision, agreed upon with the parents of these candidates, ensures that merit is recognized while adhering to age regulations.

Underage candidates may be considered under the exceptional category, provided they demonstrate outstanding ability by scoring 320 and above in the UTME and attaining at least 80% in subsequent screening stages.
