Janja Garnbret dominates in style at home in Koper

Janja Garnbret remains unbeatable in front of her home crowd in Koper. The queen of the vertical walls saved her best for the end of two days of competition on the Slovenian coast, taking her fourth straight victory in Koper and her sixth on home soil when her wins in Kranj are included.

The Slovenian celebrated her 51st World Cup victory in lead climbing after returning to competition following a 75-day break. With a height of 42+, she left the field far behind. Brooke Raboutou of the United States finished second on 33, while South Korea’s Chaehyun Seo took third with 32+.

Garnbret is regarded as the greatest competition climber in history. Her 33 lead-climbing victories represent the all-time record for gold medals in the discipline at the World Cup, now known as the World Series. She reached her milestone 50th World Cup win in June, but clearly does not intend to stop there.

Rosa Rekar also produced an excellent result by reaching the final, although the 20-year-old from Most pri Žirovnici was not immediately satisfied after the round. She secured her place among the top eight with the third-best semifinal performance and finished fifth on the demanding route, reaching 30. Last year in Koper, she also made the final and finished seventh.
