Japanese Football Legend 'King Kazu,' 59, Scores First Goal in Four Years

Japanese football icon Kazuyoshi Miura, affectionately known as "King Kazu," has proven that age is merely a number by scoring his first competitive goal in almost four years. The 59-year-old veteran found the back of the net in the 52nd minute for Fukushima United during their dominant 7-0 win against Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor's Cup.

The goal, which sparked celebrations among his teammates, marked Miura's first since November 2022. He was substituted just three minutes after scoring. This remarkable achievement comes as Miura prepares for his 42nd professional season after extending his loan spell with third-division side Fukushima United until June 2027.

Miura joined Fukushima United in December and has already made six appearances. With Japan's professional leagues transitioning to an autumn-to-spring schedule, Miura is set to continue his illustrious career into his 60s, adding another chapter to one of football's most enduring stories. He has previously stated his intention to play until he turns 60, remaining a significant draw for fans worldwide.
