Japanese stars to feature at Kaohsiung Film Festival, fans want them in Taiwan

The upcoming 2026 Kaohsiung Film Festival is set to showcase a diverse range of Japanese cinema, with several prominent artists making appearances. The festival's "Transforming Japan" section will present 11 contemporary Japanese films, highlighting the breadth of current filmmaking from the country.

Among the featured works is "Parallel and Vertical," starring Shota Yasuda of the popular group SUPER EIGHT (formerly Kanjani Eight). Yasuda was involved in the film's conception, working with experts on autism spectrum disorder to refine the script. The film, directed by Seitaro Kobayashi, explores the gentle connection and deep care between two parallel lives that intersect. It is set to have its international premiere at the festival.

Daisuke Sakuma from Snow Man stars in "The Perfect Match Murder Case: True Love," a thriller set on a tropical island where a search for love turns into a survival game.
