Jason Arday: Former Cambridge professor found dead

Jason Arday, a former professor at the University of Cambridge and noted for being the youngest Black professor in the institution's history, has been found dead. He was 41 years old.

London Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in the southwest of the British capital. Authorities stated that his death is currently being treated as unexpected, with no initial indication of foul play. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.

Arday's resignation from his professorship last week garnered significant attention in the UK. This followed media reports detailing allegations of plagiarism related to his doctoral thesis from Liverpool John Moores University. Questions were also raised about the veracity of parts of his personal history. Arday had previously denied the allegations in a written statement.

An earlier investigation by the University of Liverpool reportedly found no evidence of scientific misconduct. However, Cambridge University's leader, Deborah Prentice, announced that an independent investigation into Arday's case, conducted by senior academics from within and outside Cambridge, would be initiated. The university faced criticism over its handling of the matter. Arday's memoir is scheduled for publication at the end of August.
