Jason Blaze Odeh convicted of aggravated murder of Yelena Gerenberg

Jason Blaze Odeh was convicted on Wednesday of the aggravated murder of Yelena Gerenberg by the Central District Court in Lod. A three-judge panel unanimously ruled that Odeh planned the August 2022 killing after Gerenberg repeatedly rejected his attempts to turn their friendship into a romantic relationship.

"The totality of his actions leaves no shadow of doubt that he planned her death in advance and wanted it," the court stated, according to the prosecution. The indictment, accepted by the court, detailed how Odeh obtained a knife and gasoline before driving Gerenberg to a parking lot. There, he repeatedly stabbed her until she died, despite her screams.

After the attack, Odeh drove Gerenberg's body to an open area in Rehovot, poured gasoline over it, but did not set it alight. The court rejected Odeh's defense, noting numerous lies and inconsistencies in his testimony. He faces a mandatory life sentence, with further arguments on his sentence and penalties set for October 7.
