Jazz Sudaca: Dates, Artists and Everything to Know About the Festival’s Sixth Edition

The sixth edition of the Jazz Sudaca festival will bring two nights of music to the Teatro Tom Jobim at Brazil’s Embassy in Asunción on September 9 and 11, with both concerts starting at 8 p.m.

Brazilian guitarist Gabriele Leite will headline the opening night. It will be her first visit to Paraguay. Rolling Stone Brasil selected her in 2025 as one of 25 names representing the future of music, and she won the Prêmio da Música Brasileira this year for her album Gunûncho.

Leite grew up in the interior of São Paulo state. She earned a master’s degree in musical performance with honors from the Manhattan School of Music and is pursuing a doctorate at Stony Brook University in New York, where she currently lives. She has shared stages with artists including Hermeto Pascoal and jazz bassist Dave Holland, and has performed at Classical:NEXT in Berlin and festivals across Europe, the United States and Latin America.

The first evening will also feature Argentine performers Facundo and Nazareno Duarte with Martina Velazco. Their project explores folk and litoral music while seeking new directions for chamamé. Paraguay’s Nico Vera & The Groove Messengers will complete the program with a soul and funk set.

The second date, on Friday, September 11, will feature Paraguayan pianist Giovanni Primerano in a solo format. Latin Amibops will bring together musicians from Paraguay, Argentina and Venezuela. Brazilian guitarist Jimi Oliver will also perform with Paraguayan musicians José Burguez and Jair Galeano as part of his Brasilidades no jazz tour.
