“Jesus is from Veracruz!”: Salma Hayek celebrates 60 with her most sensual photos

Salma Hayek celebrated turning 60 with a large cake, affectionate messages from fans and photographs from a beach that showed her bare back. The images quickly drew praise online, including from Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Hayek has spent nearly four decades building one of the most recognizable Latin American careers in Hollywood. She left Mexico for Los Angeles in 1991, at age 25, despite speaking little English and facing an industry that treated her accent as an obstacle. In Mexico, she had already become popular through the telenovela Teresa.

Her Hollywood breakthrough came with Desperado, alongside Antonio Banderas. She later founded the production company Ventanarosa, which backed Frida, the 2002 film about Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Hayek starred in and produced the film, earning her first and only Oscar nomination for acting.

Throughout her career, Hayek has challenged stereotypes about Mexico and the Latino community. Her credits include Ugly Betty, Monarca, Como agua para chocolate and Eternals, while her production work has supported stories from Latin America. Her activism has also shaped her public profile. She has spoken publicly about the harassment she says she suffered from Harvey Weinstein, addressed migration and deportations in the United States, and supported initiatives aimed at strengthening Mexican cinema.

Hayek has said she is proud and comfortable showing her gray hair and appearing without makeup. She is married to French businessman François-Henri Pinault, and they have a daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault. Hayek has said that Spanish, English and French are spoken at home.
