Jette municipality joins legal fight against Brussels Airport approach route

The municipality of Jette is escalating its fight against aircraft noise by joining two existing legal cases challenging the RNP 07L approach route at Brussels Airport. This move signifies a determined effort by local authorities to represent the concerns of their residents regarding aviation-related disturbances.

Jette's administration emphasizes that its intervention aims to ensure the voices of its inhabitants are heard and to contribute to a broader strategy for managing flight noise in the northwestern part of Brussels. The municipality is concerned that a simple cancellation of the RNP 07L route would not resolve the issue but rather relocate the noise problem. They fear a return to the older VOR 07 approach route, which also affects Jette and other communities.

In a press release, the municipality stated that the noise and nuisance would merely be displaced instead of reduced. Therefore, Jette calls for an "overall approach" to the problem of overflying aircraft. This comprehensive strategy, according to Jette, should also take into account factors like wind norms, which significantly influence which runways are used and, consequently, how noise is distributed over the Brussels region.
