Jharkhand student protests: Govt says 98% demands accepted, students call claim ‘lies’, plan Vidhan Sabha march today

A tense standoff continues between the Jharkhand government and protesting student groups over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination. Despite intensive negotiations, the core issue of cancelling the CGL exam remains unresolved.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren's administration stated that it has addressed 98% of the students' demands, aiming to foster a fair academic and recruitment environment. However, student unions are adamant that the complete cancellation of the CGL exam is non-negotiable.

Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu explained that cancelling the exam is beyond the state government's executive jurisdiction, as it was conducted following directives from the High Court and Supreme Court. He added that the government cannot unilaterally overturn appointments already made through the established process. The government has offered to form an independent inquiry committee, headed by a retired judge, to investigate alleged irregularities.

Student leaders have vehemently rejected the government's claims, labeling them as "lies." They assert that only three out of thirteen demanded exams have been cancelled. In response, students are planning a "Vidhan Sabha March" to the state assembly, seeking broader support for their peaceful protest. Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders and increased security around the assembly premises in anticipation of the march.
