Jigawa digitises informal revenue collection to curb leakages

Jigawa State has embraced a digital revenue collection platform to automate payments across its informal sector. This initiative seeks to enhance transparency, bolster accountability, and prevent revenue leakages, according to a statement from eTranzact International Plc.

The payment platform, developed by eTranzact, was unveiled during a collaborative stakeholders' engagement and capacity-building program in Dutse. It is designed to digitize revenue collection for activities such as livestock markets, grain markets, and haulage operations, replacing traditional manual processes with an automated electronic payment system.

More than 90 revenue collectors, market leaders, and other key stakeholders received training on the platform's operation. Gabriel Essien, Deputy General Manager at eTranzact, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting governments with technology that boosts public sector efficiency. He stated that the platform offers real-time transaction monitoring, eliminates leakages, and provides accurate data for informed decision-making.

Nwabueze Ugwu, Regional Manager at eTranzact, added that the platform was developed after consulting with stakeholders to address the challenges of revenue collection in the informal sector. He emphasized that the solution provides end-to-end automation, enhancing efficiency, accountability, and offering government agencies real-time visibility into revenue streams. The technology aims to simplify revenue administration while fostering trust and convenience for both government and taxpayers.
