Jigawa varsity offers free tuition for mathematics, physics students

The Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB) in Jigawa State has introduced a significant incentive to bolster science education: 100% free tuition for newly admitted students pursuing B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Physics.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage more young Nigerians to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM). The university management stated that this move is crucial for national development, as Nigeria faces a persistent shortage of skilled professionals in these critical fields.

To address this gap, the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Babura has approved a waiver of school fees for candidates admitted into the B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics programmes.

According to the University Registrar, Mrs. Fatima Muhammad, the waiver covers all tuition and school fees for the duration of the programs. This aims to make science education more accessible, particularly for students from northern Nigeria and other underserved regions. The policy is also intended to increase enrollment in core science courses, which often see lower student interest despite their importance to technological advancement and innovation.

Candidates who initially chose other programs or institutions but meet the admission requirements for Mathematics or Physics at FUTB are eligible. They are advised to complete a change of institution and course through any JAMB CBT Centre. The university emphasized that this waiver is effective for the current admission cycle and urged qualified candidates to seize the opportunity.
