Jing Tian Faces Online Search Disappearance After Sun Yuchen Scandal, Sparking Soft-Ban Speculation

A controversy involving Chinese actress Jing Tian and cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sun Yuchen has been followed by unusual changes in online search results and promotional material, fueling speculation that she may be facing an unofficial industry ban.

Sun published a fictional novel titled “My Girlfriend Jing Tian,” which described alleged details of their relationship. The text referred to overseas surrogacy and a demand to recover a 30 million yuan bride price, roughly 130 million New Taiwan dollars, while presenting more specific claims about the pair’s time together.

The disclosures drew strong attention. Entertainment figures Yu Zheng and Chen Lan, known as “Xiang Tai,” publicly expressed support for Jing Tian. Online users then said searches for her name on WeChat Index returned “no relevant results,” while related searches on Weibo showed “no content.”

Users also pointed to promotional changes. A Chinese e-commerce company had announced in mid-August that Jing Tian would serve as a “beauty transformation ambassador” for trendy toys, but a county government’s official Weibo account appeared to delete a post about the collaboration. Some promotional material and related videos also appeared to disappear.

The alleged soft ban has not been confirmed. Sensitivity around surrogacy-related issues in China’s entertainment industry has led users to worry that Jing Tian’s upcoming work could be affected. In an earlier public statement, she said: “In the past, now and in the future, I will never sell my love for money, much less sell my soul. I still believe in love, I still have poor judgment, and I still lack wisdom. But I believe in the law, I believe in kindness, and I believe that justice and fairness will ultimately prevail.
